Summer 2004 Fishing
Report
"It was a terrific summer of fishing in St. Augustine this year, a
far cry from last year, when the water was too frigid to catch much.
This year the cobia were fantastic as seen in some of the great
pictures here on the website. Inshore, the reds, trout, and flounder
were plentiful as well.
We had terrific weather with some absolutely gorgeous sunrises and
sunsets with light wind. Perfect for fishing, but fantastic for just
peace of mind! Even the manatees blessed some of our trips with some
up close and personal visits as some of my customers can attest to!
The recent hurricanes in Florida have put the late August and early
September fishing on hold, but I expect the fall to be terrific in
just a few more weeks once the water clears up and the cooler temps
turn on the bite once more. Book a trip early! St. Augustine was
undamaged in the recent bout of hurricanes and is in great shape for
the Fall and Winter season. See you soon!"

January - March
- Offshore: Fishing in St. Augustine 60 miles offshore can
be difficult this time of year but rewarding with wahoo and tuna.
Grouper, snapper and many other varieties of reef and wreck fish
can also be found.
- Inshore: If the wind stays down and water temperatures
stay up, your trip can provide redfish, trout, and flounder
opportunities. Weather dictates when the best opportunities
are provided.
March - May
- Offshore: Bluewater offshore St. Augustine can still be tough
to reach on a regular basis, but the dolphin, tuna, and wahoo
become more available. Weed lines, current rips and
temperature changes provide lots of likely places to find gamefish.
- Nearshore: Cobia and grouper begin to move north with
the bait and warmer watersature. So the nearshore hotspots
become active spots to find food and fun.
- Inshore: Redfish, trout, bluefish and some flatties find
their way to hook and line. As the water cleans, calms and
warms, it provides some great fishing experiences inshore.
May - September
- Offshore: This time of year is the beat for all offshore
species. Dolphin, wahoo, tuna, sailfish, marlin, grouper,
snapper, amberjack, cobia. Although the fish are tough to
tackle, and sometimes you lose, the experience is worth
remembering!
- Nearshore: Kingfish, tarpon, cobia and big reds follow
the poagie pods from south to north. Finding the bait means
finding the fish. Days can be hot, and the fish can be
picky, but persistence usually pays off.
- Inshore: Flounder and reds school up and trout are fired
up early in the morning and late in the evening. Beautiful
weather can turn nice and hot, so watch out for a sunburn and
occasional storm.
September - December
- Offshore: Fishing holds up until the seas get too rough
to make the 60-mile run.
- Nearshore: Tarpon and kings will remain until the water
temperature falls and the bait heads back south.
- Inshore: This time of year brings the best redfish,
flounder, and trout fishing that St. Augustine can provide.
There's plenty of bait inside with warm water and cooler
temperatures.
